ORAL EXAM

The oral exam will take place on Saturday 11 January, 2014 from 8:00 a.m.

You are free to choose any topic, provided that:
- it is related to business,
- it is not directly related to environmental issues in Tunisia.

Your presentation should last between 10 and 15 minutes.


Using Powerpoint is advisable but not compulsory, but please note that you'd rather use some visuals (on any support: computer, poster, blackboard, etc.) because 2 points will be allotted to visuals.

The jury will assess your presentation according to the following criteria:


I. STRUCTURE (7.5 pts)



1-       INTRODUCTION (2.5 pts)


  • Welcoming the audience
  • Introducing oneself (name, position)
  • Introducing the topic
  • Presenting the structure of the talk
  • Giving the length of the presentation 
  • Presenting the questions policy


2-       BODY (3 pts)

  • 3 parts, organized in a logical way
  • Each part is divided into different sub-parts
  • The different parts of the presentation are signaled :

- Ending the introduction

- Beginning the main body

- Ending the main body

  • The organization:

- The structure is logical

-  Information is organized into lists

-  Linkers are used to facilitate understanding

-  Information is sequenced



3-       ENDING (2 pts)


  • Summarizing the main points
  • Giving conclusions or recommendations
  • Thanking the audience 
  • Inviting for questions or introducing discussion

II. CONTENT (5 pts)


1-     TOPIC  (3  pts)


  • Related to business.
  •  Showing some form of originality
  • Rich in well-selected information.


2-     VISUALS (2 pts)



-         Clear and appropriate to the content

-         Used effectively: they should supplement the content and the speaker should refer to them



III. DELIVERY (7.5 pts)



1-       STYLE (1.5 pts)



  • Maintaining eye contact with the audience
  • Using appropriate body language and gestures
  • Varying the speed, voice volume and pitch to maintain interest
  • Overcoming nerves and showing enthusiasm for their topic


2-       DEALING WITH QUESTIONS (2 pts)



Either giving an appropriate answer, asking for clarification before answering, or admitting not knowing the answer



3-       TIME MANAGEMENT (0.5 pts)



The presentation should last between 10 and 15 min



4-       LANGUAGE proficiency (3.5 pts)

DEADLINE & ASSESSMENT


You must submit the script of your presentation before Friday 13 December 2013.

Do NOT POST it on this blog but you can either send it to me by email to lbengayed@yahoo.com or print it and give me the hard copy.

Your work will be assessed according to the following criteria:


THE INTRODUCTION (3.5 pts)

  • Welcoming the audience

  • Getting the audience’s attention
  • Introducing the topic
  • Explaining why the topic is relevant for the audience
  • Stating the purpose of the presentation
  • Presenting the structure of the talk
  • Giving the length of the presentation
  • Helping the audience to remember the presentation
  • Presenting the questions policy
 THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESENTATION (6.5 pts)
  • 3 parts, organized in a logical way
  • Each part is divided into different sub-parts
  • The different parts of the presentation are signaled
o   Ending the introduction
o   Beginning the main body
o   Ending the main body
  • The organization:
o   Logical structure
o   Information is organized into lists
o   Linkers are used to facilitate understanding
o   Information is sequenced

  • Ending the main body of the presentation

THE TOPIC (2 pts)
  • Originality,
  • Coherence,

THE ENDING

You have now written the ending of your presentation, so post it here (just click on 'comments' below and type in your text).
Please remember that the conclusion should include the following parts:


  •  Ending the main body of the presentation
  • Summary of the main points of your prsentation (what you want the audience to remember)
  • Conclusion
  • Inviting questions
Don't forget to read the other groups' work and to give them your feedback!
